All you need to know about kerbside collections in Shropshire
If we’re unable to collect your waste or recycling due to severe bad weather, please:
- Leave your refuse bin out. If we can't get to you on your scheduled collection day we’ll come back and collect it as soon as it is safe to do so.
- Take your garden waste bin back in, and put it out on your next scheduled garden waste collection day.
- Leave your recycling boxes/purple lidded bin and blue sacks out (as long as they don’t present a trip hazard). We’ll collect them as soon as it is safe to do so.
Each household in Shropshire receives a calendar detailing the dates that their compostable waste and recycling and their residual waste will be collected. The calendars are delivered during October each year.
Residents in most parts of Shropshire have their recyclable waste and their residual waste collected on alternate weeks. One week we will collect your compostable waste (garden waste) together with your recycling boxes/purple lidded bin - glass, cans and plastic bottles and food trays (not black). Paper & cardboard can be added to your blue bag.
You can leave household batteries out on recycling day too. Please put them in a clear plastic bag and leave them where the crews can easily see them. In North Shropshire, South Shropshire and Shrewsbury you can also add food waste to your garden waste bin. The following week we will collect the rest of your household waste (the residual waste). It is important to recycle as much as possible.
If you need more information about your collection, telephone the Customer Service Centre on 0345 678 9007.
You can now mix your plastics, cans and glass in one recycling box (or as many as you need) or your purple lidded bin. There is no need to separate these materials as you did previously.

Bulky Waste Collections
Some larger items of waste can be collected by arrangement. There is a small charge for this service. Veolia are working in partnership with a charity called SHOFUR (Network of Shropshire Furniture Schemes) to collect bulky waste in most areas. By teaming up with SHOFUR, bulky waste such as furniture or white goods can be re-used for people in need. If you have items of this nature, please ensure they are kept dry until collection. Please contact the Customer Service Centre to arrange for your item to be collected on 0345 678 9007 or view the South Shropshire Furniture Scheme web site.
